Who We Are

A Nonprofit Organization that Cares

Founded by Phillip McElhenny and his wife, Kalamazoo Dream Center started as a nonprofit organization in October 1993 with “Adopt-A-Block Outreach” in the Edison neighborhood. In May of 2002, we moved into our current location at 1122 Portage St. Then, in 2007, we officially became a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Through these years, we refined and expanded our services to help every individual or family that comes to us for assistance. And, many churches have supported KDC over the years and continue to today, helping us to have the resources to support our programs.

Our Vision

True community begins with compassion. When we help our neighbors, we do more than lend a hand—we light a spark of hope, unity, and strength. Each act of kindness, no matter how small, weaves a thread of connection that turns streets into neighborhoods and strangers into family. Together, we rise by lifting each other.
