Who We Are
A Nonprofit Organization that Cares
Founded by Phillip McElhenny and the Kalamazoo First Assembly of God, Kalamazoo Dream Center started as a nonprofit organization in October 1993 with “Adopt-A-Block Outreach” in the Edison neighborhood.
In May of 2002, we moved into our current location at 1122 Portage St., with Jim LaDuke taking the helm as KDC’s first Director. In 2007, we officially became a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Through these years, we refined and expanded our services to help every individual or family that comes to us for assistance. And, many churches have supported KDC over the years and continue to today, helping us to have the resources to support our programs.
In December of 2017, Bonnie Hudson took over as Director and KDC would have closed during Covid if it were not for Bonnie’s passion and love for these neighborhoods and her neighbors.
The Kalamazoo Dream Center, under the current leadership of Bonnie Hudson and the Board of Directors, continue to refine and expand services to help more hurting and underserved individuals and families that need hope and request help for life assistance. The Kalamazoo Dream Center is very grateful for all the businesses, churches, families, and individuals, that support this program in the Kalamazoo area.
Our Vision
True community begins with compassion. When we help our neighbors, we do more than lend a hand—we light a spark of hope, unity, and strength. Each act of kindness, no matter how small, weaves a thread of connection that turns streets into neighborhoods and strangers into family. Together, we rise by lifting each other.
